Charlton's early years, after being formed in 1905, saw them play across the whole of south London before they eventually settled at the Valley in 1919. It was a foretelling of the most dramatic moment in the club’s history over 70 years later.
The Addicks were promoted to the top-flight for the first time in 1936, and 11 years later they won their first (and so far, only) major honour - the FA Cup.
A bigger fight occured in 1984, however, when the club was within 35 minutes of ceasing to exist due to debts of 1.5million pounds. A groundshare with Crystal Palace was cost-efficient but never popular, and in December 1992 came the day all Charlton fans had dreamed of - the return to the Valley. They've been there ever since, and have continued to defy the pessimists by retaining their Premiership status to the present day.
Fast Fact: Charlton beat Sunderland in 2002/3 3-1 without scoring a goal as all three were own goals in the space of 8 minutes!
Fast Fact: Charlton current Assistant Manager Keith Peacock became the first ever substitute to appear in the Football League back in 1965
