The famous name of Manchester City has been in existence since 1894 - when their predecessors Ardwick went into bankruptcy. They then played at Hyde Road but in 1923 they would move to Maine Road, the scene of many triumphs and disappointments.
City have won two titles - the second coming in 1968 in the midst of their most successful era, under Joe Mercer, when they won the FA Cup, League Cup and Cup-Winners' Cup as well as the championship in a glorious three-year period.
Since then loyal City fans have seen many disappointments, cumlminating in a drop down to Division Two in 1998 - their lowest ebb. But they bounced back and now have a spanking ground in the City of Manchester Stadium and a real chance of establishing themselves properly in the Premiership.
Fast Fact: City's John Burridge is the oldest player to appear in the Premiership. He played in goal for Man City in their 3-2 loss to QPR in May 1995 aged 43 years and 5 months.
Fast Fact: Bert Trautmann, a former World War Two German POW, led City to a 3-1 win against Birmingham City in the 1956 FA Cup Final and played with a broken neck
